Oasis of peace in the northwest of Bali Puri Dajuma Eco-Resort Review

“Bali as it originally was” – this is the motto of the Puri Dajuma Beach Eco-Resort & Spa in the northwest of Bali, which I was allowed to visit at the end of March as a press trip. Today I will explain in more detail why you should definitely have the Puri Dajuma Eco Resort in mind on your Bali trip, thanks to its incredibly quiet location, the sustainability of the hotel and the very fair price.

First a few notes on the situation. The hotel is located northwest about 2 hours from Canggu. That’s almost four hours driving time from the airport. That seems to be a long distance, but the traffic on Bali is just not that fast. Besides, the long journey is worth it. Far away are the beaches full of crowded bars, restaurants and huge resorts as well as the annoying tourist masses. Instead, you can expect a quiet beach, gentle waves perfect for swimming, untouched or traditional nature full of rice fields and tropical forests far and wide. Sustainability

I have visited a number of sustainable hotels, and here too I was really impressed by the breadth of the hotel’s sustainable efforts.

Most of the food, especially fish and vegetables, is locally grown or supplied by local suppliers. The organic oil for the massages is handmade in Bali from the national flower Fragipani.

But my highlight in terms of sustainability: The hotel assures that they do not pollute the seas. On the contrary: in every restaurant there are so-called refill stations with drinking water where guests can fill their own bottle or refill the carafe from their room. They also make every effort to keep plastic consumption to a minimum: there are no plastic straws, rainwater is collected in water tanks to water the flowers, and waste is strictly separated. Organic waste is composted and plastic and glass is sent to the renowned recycling station ecoBali. All proceeds are donated to the local community, most recently for example to the orphanage. Every two weeks there is a beach cleanup together with the whole team and in the meantime some residents of the village participate every time.

Equipment

Elli and I stayed at Villa Bendega, a bedroom with a luxurious outdoor bathroom! So you can take a bath under the stars and still enjoy your privacy. In the room you will find mosquito nets, mosquito protection, Wlan, fridge and more. You can read the exact equipment here. Our view from the room was also spectacular: Direct to the infinity pool and from there directly to the beach and the sea. Beautiful!!!

The prices are also more than fair for everything that is offered, the sustainability of the hotel, as well as the equipment and beautiful facilities. The cottages with garden view I have already discovered on the different travel portals for starting from 64 Euro per night. Our luxurious room with sea view costs around 120 Euro per night.

What also awaits every guest: two pools – a simple pool for swimming and playing and an infinity pool with a long lane for swimming, a water slide to the lower level with a waterfall, a whirlpool at the infinity pool as well as a children’s pool, which is located directly at the larger pool under the infinity pool, so that you can play safely at the side with the baby, but still remain “in the middle” of the action! If you have followed my stories, you might get a feeling of how incredibly fun these pools and different levels have been! At the same time, the stay was super relaxing. You can now watch my stories “Eco Resort” in my highlights on Instagram!

All in all I have to say that despite the size and the many offers, the resort never seemed too big and confusing. You feel comfortable and at home there immediately. At the same time, the area, the pool and the restaurants never seemed to be “full”, but very quiet and pleasant. It is difficult to describe, but in any case, Elli and I felt VERY comfortable!

Garden and beach

Another highlight: the 20km long beach! To the left of the hotel the beach with the many rocks and the strong waves is only suitable for walking and to the right of the hotel you will find a long bay which is perfect for swimming and splashing around because of the calm water! Depending on the season and the tides, the colour of the beach changes according to the hotel. When we were there, the beach was rather dark, like you know it e.g. from Canggu, very exciting! In the garden directly at the beach, but also at the pool decks, sun loungers, hammocks, swinging basket chairs and pavilions are waiting for you, so that you can really relax and switch off.

But if you need action, you will get it of course! The long pools described above are perfect for long lengths. The waterfall and the slide at the infinity pool provide pure bathing fun. Those who want can rent equipment for bodysurfing, sailing, kayaking or paddle-boarding. You can also get your own fitness brochure at the hotel.

Food

Foodies hardly ever have to leave the resort. Puri Dajuma offers three restaurants, including a teppanyaki restaurant. All three restaurants have a beautiful view of the sea and offer a variety of dishes, there is something for every taste! Vegans should let us know in advance that they would like a vegan breakfast and vegan dishes, so that there is enough vegetable milk etc. Otherwise everything is freshly bought and prepared. Personally I recommend the Tempeh instead of the tofu, because I always liked the Tempeh much better there! You can find the detailed menu here. By the way, you should make a reservation for the Teppanyaki Restaurant so that the kitchen knows what to do and can prepare the Teppanyaki experience for you. As I said, everything is freshly bought and prepared and therefore this restaurant needs the run-up.

Unfortunately we didn’t have time to test the Spe range, otherwise I would have done that in any case. The Spe-Area looked just beautiful and if you want you can also book a partner massage at the beach garden under the pavilion! So romantic! Unfortunately we missed Yoga because we were only there for a short time, but the location was beautiful again!

On the website you can find a lot more information, one of the best hotel sites I have ever visited. You can also find out more about the team, view the individual bungalows from above, find out more about the activities and wellness offers as well as other information.

Fazit

I really tried, even during my stay, to find some drawbacks…because I don’t want hotel reviews to sound 100% like advertising. I really always want to express my personal opinion, with all the pros and cons. But here I can only think of two small “disadvantages”: the waves were not surfer-friendly when we were there (but perfect for swimming and splashing around!), but it was a quiet time anyway, also on other surfing beaches, and the location is just a bit outside and you have to plan a relatively long transfer – but as described above, it’s worth it! I can really VERY recommend this hotel and the area around it. If you are ever in Bali, then definitely consider the Puri Dajuma Eco-Resort!
